Hello

Hello,
I’m Triton (Benno Salzgeber). I started by being a physicist and high school teacher, and since my study at the university I am also deeply interested in biology. Starting around a decade ago, this interest of mine focussed on marine biology and on underwater photography as well. As a snorkeller and freediver, you can observe creatures from a wide variety of animal phyla as well as seagrass and algae species, which I find very fascinating. A former colleague of mine once aptly described this as my “passion for the sea and the diverse creatures that live in it”.
I typically look for and discover fish and other creatures while snorkelling from the water surface. I often do this together with my wife and older son, who are pretty good at finding animals.

Often, not always, I dive from there, even to the seabed, to follow the animals and photograph or film them if possible. I have one breath to do that, which can be quite long if you train like me. Well, freediving is apparently becoming more and more popular.
Actually, I also have a variety of other interests, mainly in the natural sciences, but I haven’t managed to bring them in here yet.
The two pictures were taken by my older son.
